St. Mary's Engineering College is sponsored by Joseph Sriharsha & Mary Indraja Educational Society. The Society was established by Dr.Rev. K.V.K. Rao in 1996 with a social responsibility of educating, training and developing our youth, realizing that youth of a country is the pillar stone for the overall development and prosperity of the nation. Rev K.V.K. Rao, Founder and Chairman, Smt. K.V.N.V. Bharathi Devi, President and Joseph Sriharsha, Secretary, of JSMIES firmly believe that education should aim itself at shaping the personality of a student and moulding well into a responsible denizen of the society. The major strength of the institute is its ability to ensure holistic development of students to make them educated and employable, industry ready and enlightened citizens. Thus, the time-honored tenets - Knowledge, Wisdom, and Truth have been guiding forces for the founders in building the society.

St.Mary's Engineering College was established in 2007 and has reached greater heights in the last few years, with the cooperation and guidance of all the stake holders and has become a most sought after abode of academic excellence in the region. It has been regarded as a trend setter to widen the horizon of knowledge and disseminate the latest information in grooming and shaping the budding engineers and serving the society. The Institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, affiliated to JNTUH, Hyderabad and permitted by Government of Telangana.

In September 2017, NAAC peer team visited the College and evaluated various its facilities Curriculum Planning, Teaching, Learning and Evaluation Process, Research & Development, Infrastructural facilities like well-equipped laboratories, library, games and sports facilities, hostels , Student Monitoring and Support, Governance and Leadership, and Innovation and Best Practices. The Peer team expressed satisfaction over all these areas and St.Mary's Engineering College was accredited with a NAAC Grade.
